Despite its cutenest, it is <u>not</u> really a film for young kids - there are a few scenes that are scary. It was so worth it! It’s funny, there’s some violence, lots of stereotypes about the “Francophone” versus the “Anglophone”. The story line is interesting (about our hockey teams being sold to the States, murders, etc.), and I loved the fact that the French spoken in the movie (with English sub-titles) is actually Québécois, and not “proper” French (from Europe). It is what and how we speak French here!<br /><br /><i><u>My favorite scene/quote</u></i>: My favourite part is when David (the French cop) is “teaching” Martin (the English cop) how to swear in Québécois! It was hilarious! Through it all I kept thinking that whomever came up with this story has a VERY warp mind and must have some serious nightmares! It's a scary movie, no doubts about it! It's weird, it's creepy, twisted and yet I enjoyed it.<br /><br />While watching the "Making of" I learned that it was based on a Japanese video game, that is said to be very scary! My favourite aunt used to listen to his records all the time, and as I grew older I learned to like his style and his meaningful lyrics.<br /><br />He was on stage with 10 musicians, including 2 chorist-singers. He gave a 2 hour show, no intermission. He wrote over 800 songs, and did his selected "Best Of"<br /><br /><i><u>What I thought of it</u></i>: I've been wanting to see him for a while now, so when I heard (a few months ago alreday) that he would come to Montreal, yet again, for his Farewell Tour, I told my husband we just had to go. He also grew up with his grand-mother listening to those songs. Hubby managed to get us tickets - they were expensive, but worth every penny! All 2,982 seats were filled with people of all ages, surprisingly enough, even if the majority of the crowd was a little older...<br /><br /><i><u>My favorite scene/quote</u></i>: I have a few favourites among his successes, like "Emmenez-moi", or "Les Comédiens" or "Hier Encore". His voice is still so strong and crisp. "The story of John Wilmot (Depp), a.k.a. the Earl of Rochester, a 17th century poet who famously drank and debauched his way to an early grave, only to earn posthumous critical acclaim for his life's work."<br /><br /><i><u>What I thought of it</u></i>: I chose this movie cimply because Johnny Depp played in it. As soon as it started and I saw John Malkovich's name I knew I was in for a strange movie... and it was!<br /><br />Like always I was pleased with Mr. Depp's performance. The make-up artists did a great job on him, at the end he was hardly recognizable.<br /><br />It had it's moments, Depp is great at being strange, and once again, a period movie that makes me think how much I wouldn't have liked to be around in those days. Their lives are shattered as well as their dreams. I think it was a good portrayal of what the world of addicts must be like. It showed just how far/low they are willing to go to get their fix.<br /><br /><i><u>What I thought of it</u></i>: I like this type of "too real for comfort" movie. The filming was interesting, with the sound effects, etc. Leto was very convincing as an addict, and I must say that Marlon Wayans was also good - he can act "seriously" if he wants to, and that was nice to see. Mrs Burstyn was also quite convincing as a lonely, diet pills addict. How I wished I had a dad as colourful has he was. So, when I heard that he was going to be in town for the “Just For Laughs” Festival, for one night, I had to go!<br /><br />The show was at Place des Arts – Salle Wilfrid Pelletier, a really classy venue not like the little run-down places that often host little show during the festival. The tickets were a bit expensive: $72.00/person, but so worth it!<br /><br />The décor was an area rug, a chair with a sweatshirt on which read “<a href="http://www.hellofriend.org/">Hello Friend</a>”. He came on at 6pm, with his bottle of Evian. Right off the bat he almost got a standing ovation, to which he simply said: “Thank you but please, you didn’t pay to hear yourself clap”. And then he started…<br /><br /><i><u>What I thought of it</u></i>: It was truly a fun time. His facial expressions, his timing (even if, he’s slower…) and his topics… wow! He really gave us two full hours of laughter. He has such a knack for story telling; the every day things become funny and his humour (very clean BTW, not one swear!) appeals to everyone at different times. The whole show was basically about his marriage and served as a warning for men out there.<br /><br /><i><u>My favorite scene/quote</u></i>: A woman will use 3 expressions to adress her man, and with each he will know where he stands. She will use "Look!" or "Listen!" or "Bill!" - My vision became blurry because I was laughing so much, he's so right about that. Hubby "knows" when I call him by his name, so that was simply hilarious for me.<br /><br />When he told the story about his grand-daughter’s adventure on the toilet “everybody poops” and his house description (wow! that sure sounded like a big house!)<br /><br />I truly had a great time, and I’m so glad I got to see him live at least once. Rented it and watched it with Hubby last night. Maybe because I'm older, but I simply thought it was such a cute, touching story. I simply love Depp! He was quite believable as a Mexican lover and even back then you could spot some Captain Sparrow in him.<br /><br />It is a nice story about love and the power of imagination. The house where the "stress" takes place is amazing and I think (despite the bad reviews the movie got) that overall (even if predictable) it was well done. It is not an horror movie but a thriller. Like the director said (in the extra features), it's about a normal situation and how we get scared in an unknown house with a stranger calling...<br /><br />The ending actually reminded me (a little) of "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074285/">Carrie's</a>" ending, twisted just enough!<br /><br /><i><u>Best quote</u></i>:<br /><br />Jill (sitter): You really scared me, if that's what you wanted. (IMDb's)<br /><br /><i><u>What I thought of it</u></i>: We were curious about this movie, since we had heard of it on an episode of "The Apprentise", so we rented it. It was actually better than I thought it would be. It was almost as if we entered a child's vivid imagination. Through it all we see the emotional relationship of the two brothers, being competitive and wanting their dad's attention, their own love-hate issues, Walter not wanting Danny, etc. The effects were ok, but I mostly enjoyed the imagination behind it all with the Zorgons, the robots, the automatic ejection for cheating, etc.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><u>My favorite scenes</u></span>: Because the house lost gravity-field strenght the boys are flung across the room and when they got it back the younger boy, Danny, gets smack against a window, and slides down squeeking - I thought it was really funny!<br /><br />When Danny gets on the alien ship to get the game back he has to make his way through a goat pen, all the while saying "It's just a goat, it's just a goat...", until one of them turn around and has 4 eyes. Danny keeps walking now saying "Not a goat! It was funny and also quite touching, so I had to see the movie. I liked the movie even if it was a little "Hollywood-a-fied", and not completely faithful to the book, but overall it had its funny moments and its touchy-feely ones. A journey of discovery is awaiting father and son.<br /><br /><i><u>What I thought of it</u></i>: I was curious about it from the little previews I had seen, plus I tend to like Mrs. Dukakis' work and I find Paul Reiser funny (really liked him in "Mad About You").<br />This movie is a touching love story between a son and his dad, and it brings up a lot of issues that we all face with our parents at some point in time, I think. The chemistry between Falk and Reiser's characters is very good, and we all can relate to situations in this movie. A movie about slavery in today's world and how women ( and little boys alike) are objects, simple goods to be traded.<br /><br /><b>What I thought of it</b>: I was curious about it because of some local actors that I like were playing in it. The casting was good with Mira Sorvino as the main agent, Donald Sutterland as her boss, Robert Carlyle was disgusting as the bad "merchant". The girls were also quite convincing. Good performances all around. It is a long movie (3 hours), but it makes you realise how sick we have become as a society. It's a very dark tale that (according to the movie) 800,000 people/per year go through. You could feel the love, really! The crowd was older. It was a nice "recap" of her career and a good opportunity to present her latest cd. She has over 205 songs recorded.<br />During the show she told the crowd that after the show she would be on that side of the room if people wanted to see her, take a picture with her, get an autograph, etc. And within 10 minutes of her show being over, she came out, sat a table and started to talk to people. A really approchable lady. I was pleasantly surprised. Good story, and Redford as a grumpy old man was convincing. Freeman was equally good - there's something about this man, just love to watch him. A good movie to see. Loved it. They kids in it were really good, especially the little one, Georgie Henley. It's touching and Liam Neeson (as Aslan - the Lion) has the voice for the role - simply love his voice. (IMDb's)<br /><br /><b>What I thought of it:</b> Didn't really know much about the storyline besides that it was related to the killings that happened during the Olympic Games of Munich. I thought it was going to be heavy and it was, but I really liked it anyway. Interesting story and yet again Mr. Spielberg managed to tell another disturbing story of the Jewish people. (IMDb's)<br /><br /><b>What I thought of it:</b> Wasn't too keen on seing it, but I'm glad I did. Wanted to know what the fuss was about, and it deserved the attention it got. Interesting story, always fascinates me to see how the drug industry is ruled by money.<br /><br />I'm torn between love and hate when it comes to Ralph Fiennes. I really hated him as a Nazi in "Schindler's List".
